Arrowthorp (/arrowthorp/ [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Town located in the Seóvmbaw̄ä Provence of the Kingdom of Hobben.

The name Arrowthorp is derived from the Sylvin language, as Arrowthorp was founded by Shënm Heard, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Arrowthorp has a yearly average temperature of 23°C (73°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a warm 30°C (86°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cool 17°C (62°F). Arrowthorp receives an average of 270 cm/y (106 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the summer. Arrowthorp covers an area of nearly 5 km2 (2 mi2), and an average elevation of 782 m (2565 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Arrowthorp was founded durring the late 12th century in summer of the year 1093, by Shënm Heard. The establishment of Arrowthorp suffered from several major issues, resulting in the need to develop many solutions to basic problems. Problems such as a lack of fresh water, logistical support, poor quality tools, and the odd monster or two. Howeaver, these were overcome in time.

Arrowthorp was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the late 12th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Arrowthorp is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature waddle and daub construction with good timber frames and a stone foundation protected by thatched or shingled rooves. Most buildings with second floors are built in such a way as to overhang into the streets on the upper floors for more space, as building size seems to be the primary indicator of wealth within the community. Most buildings are not decorated with any integral features, but instead use ivy, flowers, and other natural elements in planters of on trellices to breathe life into the structure they grow upon.

Arrowthorp is buildings are arranged arround a single crampt carved bedrock mainstreet with many smaller streets branching off of it which gives the town a over all rectangular shape, albit one warped and twisted by the nature of the curves of the main road. The town emploies a series of defencive earthworks, spikes, and fences to provide some protection against wild beasts and smaller groups of intelegent foes. The town's minimaly adiquite are visibly old, but also obviously maintained semi-regularly. Its likly the local malishia or garrison are tasked with ocasional mantance of the towns defences.

Arrowthorp has the unmistakable air of a town on its last legs. Everything is a bit slipshod and ramshackle. Everyone is at work, or drinking. No one has anything in their eyes other than fear and despair. Whatever industry once fueled Arrowthorp ’s existence has dried up and the town is drifting down the stream of history as it dries up. Likely due to this, Arrowthorp is, in a word, disorder. People seem to be allowed to do as they please with little harmoney to anything. It feels less like a town, and more like a spot people just happened to have homes. One cannot help but wonder what Arrowthorp was like during the glorydays.

Cultural Notes

Arrowthorp's bank was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used embraces individualism and experimentation. It emerged as a movement against traditional, classical styles and sought to make buildings dynamic and fun while breaking the rules. The style incorporated elements of previous architectural styles in exaggerated and whimsical ways. Traditional, conservative leanings were void in this era, with most scholars of architecture agreeing it was a time of “anything goes.”.

Due to the actions of local Kami, spring is skipped in Arrowthorp.

Arrowthorp's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in winter and involves orgies to channel Elven High Magic energies of tier 2 via throat singing.

History

A local has came up with a wonderful new idea (5060 % 6)+1 months ago; it may be a magical innovation, a new industrial process, a new agricultural product, a new use for what was thought to be ancient garbage, or some other very useful, profitable idea. Everyone around them is fighting for the chance to exploit this clever new plan.

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the early 2nd century, Arrowthorp was attacked by members of a peasant revolt. The details of the conflict are hazy at best due to many conflicting accounts. What is known is Arrowthorp lost 282 people, 326 livestock, and 23 buildings. The conflict ended after roughly 191, when members of Arrowthorp's militia enacted an operation to destroy a particular research site. The operation was complicated by major logistical problems. The conflict ended with an assault and siege on the research site, which ended in a stalemate for Arrowthorp's forces. The war is remembered in legend by Arrowthorp's bards, historians, and legend keepers.
